Quality Assurance Test Technician

Quality Assurance Test Technician is responsible for testing components, finished goods, and prototypes to ensure compliance with established specifications and quality standards. This role executes test plans, completes test setups, and assists in the design and development of test fixtures as needed. The technician evaluates test results, documents findings, identifies defects, and supports root cause analysis efforts in collaboration with engineering and quality teams to drive product reliability and continuous improvement.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily:

 

  • Control, schedule, and maintain daily activities with respect to testing. Required to formally report product status and testing results.  May also be required to help develop and/or review test plans to complete required product testing.
  • Supports Design, Manufacturing and Quality Engineering as requested with product inspection information, testing and data.
  • Provides support for troubleshooting Test Laboratory issues as needed.
  • Provides detailed information to the appropriate person(s) on the acceptable or unacceptable condition of product testing results.
  • Assist in the development of new test methods and new test equipment design and set-ups.
  • Assist in the performance of Regulatory testing to regulatory levels and under witness of regulatory agencies such as UL, ANSI and BHMA.
  • Performs Test Laboratory equipment maintenance as needed. 
  • Support continuous improvement activities of the Testing department.
  • Conform with the organizations ISO 9001 & 14001 requirements.
  • Other duties and specific responsibilities may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position. 

Education and/or Experience:

  • 2 Year Technical degree with a minimum of 3 or more years of related experience required or High School Diploma, with a minimum of 7 or more years of related experience plus additional formal related training.

Other Skills

  • Must have the ability to set up and operate test equipment to evaluate the performance of developmental parts, assemblies, or systems under test.
  • Ability to record results and present them in a clear and concise reporting format as needed.
  • Understanding of Root Cause and Corrective Action process.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of standard handheld inspection and testing tools, Optical Comparators, Understanding and use/programming of CMM’s, Hardness Testers, Surface Plate Layout, Force gages, etc. as required.
  • Knowledge and experience in performing Cycle testing, tensile testing, Hi-Pot testing, ESD testing, Environmental chambers: temp, humidity, rain dust is a plus.
  • Able to read and comprehend complex blueprints.
  • Testing and inspection knowledge as well as experience with Mechanical/Electronic parts. 
  • Experience designing testing fixtures is a plus.
  • An understanding of Lean Principles is beneficial.
  • Strong Continuous Improvement mindset.
  • Must have good communication and organizational skills and be attentive to detail.

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Proficiency in CAD software is not required, but considered a plus.

Quality Commitment

Assist the organization with establishing practices that align with ISO requirements.

Language Ability

  • For business and safety reasons, ability to write reports and business correspondence in English and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, technicians, and assemblers in English.
