As our SENIOR TOOLING ENGINEER , you’ll support HID’s success by: 

 

 

Summary

The Tooling Engineer is responsible for designing(option), maintaining, and improving injection molding tools and related equipment. This role requires hands-on operation and maintenance of tooling repair machinery such as CNC milling machines, EDM (Electrical Discharge Machines), surface grinders, lathes, and drilling machines to ensure tooling accuracy and longevity. The engineer actively troubleshoots, repairs, and modifies tooling components to maintain optimal production efficiency and product quality. Collaboration with production and quality teams, along with strict adherence to safety and industry standards, is essential to support continuous improvement and manufacturing excellence. This role serves as a key driver in elevating injection molding manufacturing processes to world-class standards through a systematic, data-driven approach focused on continuous improvement, tooling innovation, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Compliance to all relevant HID Global policies and procedures related to Quality, Security, Safety, Business Continuity, and Environmental systems.
  • Tooling maintenance & optimization
  • Monitor the tool performance and implement preventive maintenance program including (MTBF). Troubleshoot and resolve tooling issues to minimize downtime and extend tool life.

Process Integration

  • Collaborate closely with design, production, and quality teams to ensure that tooling solutions are manufacturable, efficient, and aligned with lean manufacturing principles.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for tooling improvements to enhance production efficiency, reduce cycle times, and drive cost reductions through redesign, automation, or material optimization also establishes SOP, WI, analyzes tools condition.

Vendor and Supplier Coordination

  • Work with external suppliers and internal fabrication teams to source, manufacture, and qualify tooling components, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with specifications.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records of tooling designs, modifications, validations, and maintenance schedules. Ensure tooling complies with company standards, industry regulations, and safety protocols.

Project Management

  • Lead or support tooling projects from concept through implementation, managing timelines, budgets, and cross-functional communication to ensure successful execution.
  • Tool readiness for production as per the work order
  • Advise other tooling technicians and provide guidelines, including training.
  • To take up new responsibilities as and when required to do so.
  • Knowledge and hands on, on tooling related machines i.e surface grinding, drilling, EDM, wire cut

 

Qualifications

  • Good understanding of production / tooling equipment and processes- handling injection molding tools.
  • Hands-on on tooling and tooling machinery &trouble shooting.
  • Should be able to read and understand technical drawings to accurately interpret dimensions, tolerances, materials, and specifications.
  • Leadership.
  • Innovation & CI support IM- (e.g., automation, material efficiency, or digital/ AI-driven process control).
  • Cross-Department Interaction - collaborates with design, QA, NPI, Assembly/Secondary process), system integration team & others related department.
  • Good understanding on the improvement tools (Lean tools).
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Good in problem solving skills.

 

Education and/or Experience         

  • Degree/Diploma/Vocational in tooling engineering or technically related field.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in Plastic Injection Molding tooling section with hands on.

 

Language Skills                   

  • Excellent communication skills in English verbally and in writing.
  • Able to communicate in Malay language.

                       

Computer Skills     

  • Proficient in MS Office applications, such as ProE/AutoCAD(or comparable software related to tooling), Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Familiar with operating systems, such as Windows, etc.
