Tool Room Supervisor
Job Summary
Coordinates and supervises tool repair, tool build and tool modification activities in the tool room stamping area. Provides tooling support for day-to-day production and strategically through quality and productivity improvement projects.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- (25%) Establishes goals, coaches, supervises, and implements plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
- Works closely with production supervisors, quality, and planning to establish priorities and assign resources accordingly with the main goal of reducing machine downtime, supporting production and improved productivity for production.
- Prioritizes and schedules jobs in new tooling to meet department goal of new tooling and rework of the tooling
- Evaluates outsourced/ in-sources jobs in the tool room to maximize productivity in production as well as new tooling output
- Analyzes and resolves work problems and assists workers in solving work problems.
- (25%) Plan and implement corrective actions for reoccurring problems with the tools.
- Analyze tooling related production problems and take corrective action to ensure production of quality parts.
- Supervises other tooling personnel to execute improvement to quality, productivity, and reliability through design of new tools or modification of existing tools.
- Assist tool makers to rebuild the tools with quality and productivity issues.
- Specify, recommend, and deliver data to the Tool Crib Lead to perform required spare component setup activities for new product spare tooling.
- (25%) Plan and implement new tools in support of new product introduction and productivity projects
- Participate in new tool design reviews by providing input to ensure successful tooling build and implementation.
- Develop tools for prototype parts for new product design evaluation.
- Understand and implement successful APQP for tool qualification process.
- Assist tool makers in setting up and debug new tools.
- Specify, recommend, and perform required spare component setup activities for new product spare tooling.
- (25%) Leader of continuous improvement efforts for tool room stamping area. Show year over year improvement in total output, quality, and service level. This is to be achieved through capital improvement and development/implementation of standardized tooling control policies and procedures.
- Review new product releases, engineering changes, and deviations to determine tooling, equipment, and manufacturing operations required to initiate actions to ensure compliance through production release.
- Develop and implement new tool setup, repair specifications, and preventive maintenance specifications for production and tooling repair.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Other duties as assigned by Tool Room Leader
- Provide leadership in additional areas of the tool room.
Education and Experience Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent related experience.
- 5-10 years’ experience in a leadership role.
- 5-10 years’ experience in Progressive Stamping Tool Design, Trouble shooting and Stamping Manufacturing environment working with Tool Makers and Production Operators.
- Proficiency in the use of CAD software. Autocad, SolidWorks or Creo
- Lean Manufacturing experience preferred.
Required Skills
- Ability to use lean six sigma tools to correct tooling and production problems.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical drawings, technical procedures, etc.
- Ability to write summary reports, professional business correspondence, and instruction procedures.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, suppliers, and customers.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of information in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Work Environment:
Working conditions are normal for an office environment and non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility.
