Product Development Engineer
Design products that make everyday access safer, simpler and more secure.
If you're an experienced Product Design Engineer who enjoys taking products from concept through to production, this role offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact.
You'll work across the full product development lifecycle, collaborating with manufacturing, quality, product management and suppliers to deliver innovative solutions that balance performance, quality, customer needs and commercial outcomes.
This is a role for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, improving products and seeing their designs become real-world solutions.
About Us
ASSA ABLOY is the global leader in access solutions, trusted in over 70 countries to deliver smart, secure and seamless experiences. In Australia, our iconic brands — including Lockwood, Yale, Whitco and ABLOY — are trusted across homes, businesses and public spaces.
From advanced digital locking solutions to high-performance door and window hardware, our locally manufactured and globally backed products set the benchmark for innovation, reliability and performance.
About the Role
As a Senior Product Design Engineer, you'll contribute to the development of new and enhanced products from initial concept through to production release.
Working closely with Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality and external suppliers, you'll ensure designs are technically sound, commercially viable and ready for manufacture. You'll play an important role in product innovation, testing, risk management, cost optimisation and continuous product improvement.
Your work will directly contribute to delivering quality solutions that meet customer needs while supporting ASSA ABLOY's product development goals and manufacturing standards.
What you'll be responsible for
You'll take ownership of engineering deliverables across multiple product development projects, including:
- Develop product concepts and detailed designs through to production release.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Evaluate design options and recommend solutions based on sound engineering analysis.
- Coordinate prototyping, testing and validation activities to improve product performance and reliability.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure designs are optimised for production.
- Identify project risks, support design reviews and contribute to successful project delivery milestones.
- Drive product improvements, value engineering initiatives and cost-reduction opportunities.
- Partner with suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve technical challenges and deliver project outcomes.
About You
You're a technically capable engineer who enjoys turning ideas into practical, manufacturable products.
You combine strong analytical thinking with a hands-on approach to problem solving and are comfortable working across different stages of the product development lifecycle. You're able to communicate complex technical concepts clearly, build strong relationships with stakeholders and manage competing priorities without losing sight of quality and detail.
Most importantly, you're motivated by delivering products that perform in the real world and create value for customers and the business.
